National Registry of Foreign Investments (RNIE). Terms affected by COVID-19.

In recent days, the Federal Government of Mexico has issued various agreements establishing measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

One of such measures has been the closure of offices and the suspension of the terms for making representations to the authorities.

Nevertheless, not all procedures are suspended due to their importance.

Such is the case for actions before the RNIE that are normally ongoing and not subject to suspension.

These actions are identified by the agreement published on 1 April 2020 in the Official Journal of the Federation (evening edition) and are as follows:

·       Authorization by the National Commission for Foreign Investment;

·       Authorization for the use of neutral investment;

·       Authorization for the establishment of foreign legal entities in the Mexican Republic;

·       Notice for the establishment of foreign legal persons in the Mexican Republic;

·       Opinion of the National Commission on Foreign Investment for the purposes of article 77 of the Federal Law on Telecommunications and Broadcasting; and

·       Consulting on foreign investment.

These official actions must be submitted via the Legal Affairs System for Foreign Investment (https://sajie.economia.gob.mx/).

The formalities or procedures of the Directorate-General for Foreign Investment not mentioned above will be suspended until the resumption of activities.
